Kiddie Porn Pervert Saved by Second-Rate Crisis Management Team

I have proof that even a poor crisis management team is better than no crisis management team. Case in point: the Matt Bandy case. What follows is the story of how a shrewd lawyer was able to use a second-rate crisis management "expert" to direct the focus away from his perverted but quite wealthy client. The so-called expert and his web "master" used the ignorance of the computer illiterate to whip up fear of some cyber zombie that could cause your computer to download filthy pictures of small children being sexually abused and then save them to a CD and put that CD in your drawer without you ever knowing it. Ridiculous? Of course, but the retards of the world love a good evil science story, especially a hysterical made-up one.

In December of 2004, Matt Bandy was arrested for downloading and distributing kiddie porn. Described as a average kid from a average family, Matt Bandy became the poster child for the dangers of evil-doers online. His average family shelled out $250,000.00 to keep their son from having to register as a sex-offender, even though he plead guilty, a fact that was overlooked thanks to some quick thinking on the family's part. The Bandy's hired Jonathon Bernstein, who according to himself, is a "nationally known crisis management expert." He contacted one of his drinking buddies, and they immediately put up a website, albeit sloppy and amateurish, called justice4matt.com. What about justice for the abused children whose pictures were found on the CD in Matt's drawer? Oh, that's right, a zombie computer virus did it. Again, it sounds silly, but these two yahoos were able to direct the focus away from the pervert, who was real, and onto a made-up zombie.

How did these two ninnies pull it off? Because the other side failed to hire a crisis management team. In short, the other team didn't even show up, and these days, not responding to an online challenge immediately is a huge mistake. The prosecutors believed that even if the "zombie" theory were true, it didn't account for the porn that was on the little pervert's computer for nine months before any adware or spyware had been installed. Oh yeah, and then there was the pesky fact that pictures of little girls being raped were found on a CD in his drawer. That's some virus, huh? It's smart enough to save files on a CD and hide that CD in your drawer. Wow. None of this mattered to an ignorant public. Eager to announce the triumph of idiocy over technology, the media grabbed onto the idea that a hacker lurked around every corner on the Internet, and any chance of any real justice for Matt Bandy, like a nice long prison sentence, was all but lost.
